You know I did search but did not really get direct answers to some question.

I am going to order a M9750 because thats what I have my eyes on cash wise.

1. If you get a 1 year warranty on the laptop during the 1 year can you upgrade to the 3 year or do you have to do it at order time?

2. Just how much stuff can you pack into it? can you have to hard drives and 2 battery's and a dvd drive?

3. If I order it with out raid can i still put in a second HD later on?

4. I know that the video cards did have problems but they seem to have corrected it yes? I'm not sure what it was.

5.http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ I guess I have to wait to get my system so it can scan it to tell me what I need? I just wanted to know ahead of time what ver # and bah bah bah I should be downloading on XP.

6. I have been out of the laptop circle for a while and I am going to order 1gb because I know that I can get 2gb of quality ram for less then $150 I would think. The bus on the processor is 667 DDR2 but some people say you should get one grade higher just because and this is were I am lost on what to buy.

You can put two hard drives in the computer... it only has one battery in the computer... You will get alittle over 1 hour of battery out of it... You can purchase another harddrive later like off of newegg and do a RAID config....The GPU should have been fixed by now but always get the 3 years warranty it will pay for itself if a GPU goes dead...ON the RAM get 667mhz ram 200pin SO-DIMM DDR2 RAM if you get any higher it will downclock to 667mhz... ON the video drivers just go through laptopvideo2go.com and find some that work...

But the m9750 is older technology and the m17 will last alot longer especially with a quad processor in it...If I was you I would save up some more money and purchase the m17 with the smallest harddrive and RAM and upgrade urself...that will save money... get a quad processor and a good GPU....

Ok.

I went to jail. I do not have any thing to my name right now. I have no computer of my own. I have no bed and maybe 300$ in pants and shirts. I am moving out on jan. I am trying to get a new job as the one I have pays $299 a week. and yes I am 27 and lost everything.

I am using a 15in broken laptop were the screws are falling out
1.6 pentium 4 with 1gb of ram. that the power supply cord has to have a 15lb weight on it to keep the power on.
oh and the hard drive is failing too. It tells me at start up and the speakers make this buzzing air sound until i plug in headphones to make it stop.
I just wanted the answers to my ****ing questions without everyone telling me to get a $3000 laptop. and now you know the rest of the story.

Alienware used to allow you to upgrade the warranty during the first year, but you should ask Alienware directly to be sure as their policies have changed on occasion.

There are two dedicated hd slots, a dedicated dvd slot, and a single battery slot. You can buy extra batteries and swap them out if you need longer battery life than one battery will provide.

You can add a second hd later, and use them as seperate drives, or you can enable RAID in the bios and use it. The RAID controller is on the motherboard and is in every m9750.

There were some concerns with higher than average failure rate with some nVidia cards, but Alienware says they haven't had any issues with the hardware they've tested and shipped. nVidia has apparently addressed the issue, and the new hardware being shipped should be fine.

Latest version of the XP drivers if you're using XP should work fine.

If you buy 800 DDR2, it will clock down to 667 if that's what the mobo supports. Shouldn't be a problem, but if 800 is more expensive than 667, it's kind of a waste of money. I'm not sure the specs of m9750 memory, so I can't recommend a particular brand.

I do like Crucial, Kingston, and OCZ though. I've had all these brands in desktops and laptops and they've been great.

To the original poster, I really don't understand why you are against the M17. You are choosing to take less for your money by going with the m9750. For example:

M17 Configured with the following:

Dual 512MB ATI Radeon 3870's in CrossfireX
Intel® Core™2 P8400 2.26GHz (3MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
17-Inch WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD (720p)
Illuminated Keyboard
2GB Dual Channel DDR3 SO-DIMM at 1066MHz – 2 x 1024MB
160GB 7,200RPM (8MB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection
8x Dual Layer Burner (DVD±RW, CD-RW)
Internal Intel® Ultimate N 5300 a/b/g/Draft-N Mini-Card with MIMO Technology

Total = $1699

That option is a lot more powerful then what you have in the m9750 and it is also $53 cheaper. If you really wanted the 1200p screen, you could opt to go with a single Radeon 3870 instead and still have a more powerful notebook. At this point in time, it is pointless to go with the m9750, not only is it less powerful now, you can't upgrade it in the future either. The M17 is more powerful today and has upgradeability for at least a couple years to come.

Well shit. I saw M17 and thought M17X starting at 2,400 bux. I did not see the M17 at the bottom.

The only pit fall I can see is that you can not put XP on. Its all vista shit. and I wanted to play all the older games like quake 3 and Unreal T 1. They don't run so hot under Vista. God I hate that OS. I wonder if I put XP on if I will run into any problems? My step dad gave me a CHK and not cash so I can't buy it till WED of next week when the CHK clears.

If you have the XP disc you can install it and just run dual boot. You can have both Vista and XP on the PC at the same time. I doubt that PC would have any trouble running games that old under vista anyway. Hell, my 7 year old desktop downstairs can blaze through Quake 3 with no probs.
