ML6721 can't sleep after Vista reinstall

Hi,
I had to reinstall Vista Home Premium. I've performed all the lastest updates but my computer can no longer sleep. It's not a problem of not being able to wake up from sleep mode but instead my computer simply can't go into sleep mode. When I press the keyboard sleep key or the start menu option, the screen goes blank and there is some HD activity, but the HD does not shut down, nor does my mouse and the computer does not enter sleep. Has anyone experienced this on a ML6721 or similar laptop and found a fix? It worked when I purchased the laptop and even after my first reinstall of Vista, but not this time around.

I've turned off the options for network cards to wake from sleep and have played around with using hybrid sleep. Doesn't work. I can reprogram the buttons to hybernate and that works fine.
Thanks.

I figuered out what the problem was for my system. When I setup Vista Media Center, I may have inadvertently activated "Away Mode" which would replace the normal "sleep mode". If you search for "disable away mode" you should find a information to see if this is the case for you and how to correct it.

I still have the wierd issue where:
1. connected to AC power
2. enter sleep mode
3. unplug from AC power to use battery
4. resume from sleep mode
5. computer reboots instead of resuming from sleep

If I unplug from AC power before entering sleep then the computer is able to enter and resume from sleep mode normally.

. thanks for the feedback
. strange about the reboot when ac unplugged during sleep mode. It happened on my macbook, and i was noticing that if no external device is being connected, then it was ok. May be you can check that and see

actually, i just realized that it only happens if i have an external monitor connected. if i first disconnect the monitor, i can unplug/sleep/resume in any order without issue.

I would check the cable connecting to the external, and the monitor setting itself (resolutin, per example)
