180.42 - good nvidia driver for the fx 3600m

it was always hard for me to find a good new video driver, which also supports
oc with atitool.

finally i tried the 180.42 driver from laptopvideo. this one is very good so far.
3dmark performance is pretty much the same like my former stock driver's,
it can be oc'ed with atitool (which i prefer over other oc software). and it
includes physx support, which can be turned on/off in the nvidia driver.

i have to try it in some longer gaming sessions, but so far i can recommend it.
i will post, if it removes the short slowdowns, that appeared sometimes
in most games and if it performs well in the games i play (grid, far cry 2,
cod4).

btw: it is the nvidia "big bang" driver, which came out to optimize performance
in far cry 2. but this seems to show a bigger effect in dx10 (i use dx9).

oh, i also tried the slightly newer 180.43 driver from laptopvideo, but it is
somehow currupted and after installation it didn't show up in the software list
and was a bit annoying to remove. so better stay away from this one if
you share my system configuration.

EDIT:

it runs far cry 2 sp very smoothly with settings being 1440x900, all set to very high,
textures to ultra high, 2xaa, 4xaf.
my former driver had problems running it so smooth and it always crashed down to 2 fps
after changing video settings so it had to be restarted.

hello, I am using the 180.43 nvidia drivers, and I see very much diference in far cry 2, i can play very well at 1400*1050 geometry in normal, and the other settings at ultra hight, i have 25--50 fps, i usualy have 35 or 40 fps, but sometimes when I am near the water the fps goes down to 26,25 but I can play well, can you put a snap of your far cry 2 benchmark???

sorry for my english

the 180.43 from laptopvideo didn't work for me. couldn't even install it.
the extra frames mainly appear if you use vista/dx10.
btw: i don't know what system you use.

as for me, during the game i found out i need the 1280x800 res, 2xaa,
everything very high + oc 600/900. otherwise it can get slow in some areas.
i guess actual game experience is more important then the benchmark.
