You want to be looking for mini pci express N cards. Check ebay for the intel wireless N notebook cards.

If your router doesn't support N, why bother getting a new card?

well i load at 54 need something faster. so have netgear 824 rangemax, looking for a adaptor to go w/ it so instead of looking for a adaptor for the g should i just go up to the n and will it be faster and as strong a range as a rangemax g? netgear doesnt make a n pci card

thanks

stick with your card you have now. even with a N card, you will still connect at 54G due to your router.

also, keep in mind if you don't have 3 antennas and you only use the 2 your have performance on an N card will no be at full potential.

However, here are my recommendations:

for an intel minicard, go with the 4965ABGN card. widely available. 3wire

If you want a better card IMHO, go with a Marvell MC85 TOPDOG card, which is what the gateway M-6319 uses. 3 wire

another gateway card is the Ralink 2720L card, used in the M-6337. (note: not full N, as it only uses MIMO for receive.) 2 wire

last but not least, the Broadcom 4321 N card. used in many products, but mostly macbooks. also widely available on ebay. 2 wire

Hey ron, not sure if you are still checking this thread but if you are stay away from the marvell cards, they are a pain to use in other other operating system and i get a better signal with the intel mentioned above. I have the same router, V3, i got a couple WPN111 Netgear USB adapters, they are rang emax as well. You can get two of them at tigerdirect right now for 20 dollars or one for 9.99. They are refurbished and work fine, my 824V3 router is refurbished as well but i have never had a problem with any refurb i have purchased from tiger.
