Whenever my speakers would be on while I adjust my 5720's lid/screen, I would often hear Windows XP's USB connection sound, sometimes connecting, sometimes disconnecting. I could never figure out what it was until recently.
I discovered that the problem is the built-in camera. When I put my screen in certain positions, the camera disconnects, but in other positions, it connects and can be accessed. Here are my approximate findings (degrees are positive from closed position, "Standby on lid close" disabled):
Closed–60 degrees: camera disconnects
60-110 degrees: camera connects
110-somewhere inconsistent: camera disconnects
Somewhere inconsistent: camera connects again
Weird, huh? I've also seen that USB devices seem to disconnect permanently after closing the lid, and I have to do some weird combination of closing and reopening in order for them to come back on.
Is this a hardware failure? Can anyone else repeat this glitch?
