Are IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad worth the price?

Hey!

New to the forum.

Was wondering if the ThinkPad are really worth the price? I was
interested in the Thinkpad T61 and the cheaper R and SL series. It seems that the thinkpad specs are not as high as some of the competitors (i.e. Dell, HP etc.) for the same price.

Also i used to own a T34 thinkpad and the right hand of the laptop used to heat up very often and is usually burning hot, does this still happen to the current laptops?

Also are the thinkpads specifically the SL series are powerful enough to power Adobe Photoshop CS3?

Final question, how is the customer service? I need to know this because my current laptop is a Compaq and the customer service is terrible! My warrenty just expired (27days when it happened) and my laptop screens goes dead (wont turn on) but everything else still works. They want $400 just to send it in!

IBM/Lenovo is known for good products and good services. They are solid systems to have, if it is your preference.

Screen replacement can be performed by oneself with less than 1/2 the price your were being quoted.

cheers ...

I purchased a T60 2 years ago just as Vista was being released - Lenovo had full drivers available immediately and they are one of the few laptop vendors that issues driver updates on an ongoing basis!

The T60 has been probably one of the most reliable laptops I've owned. After 2 years of continual on-the-road travel I've had ZERO problems.

Can't answer your query regarding Photoshop though, or about customer support since I haven't had an opportunity to use them!

I think you're paying for better build quality. ThinkPads are business grade machines. Lenovo customer service in my experience is better than most.

Lenovo machines ARE fantasitic - but for Photoshop, I'd recommend the T or W series, not the R or SL. T and W are the best built, sturdiest machines that Lenovo makes, and W series is specifically designed for design work (like Photoshop or 3D apps). If the W is out of your price range, have a good look at the T400 or T500 (T61 is discontinued).

No doubt about it. Here's one reason why Lenovo Youtube Video - Mil Spec. In a Thinkpad, you get Mil Specs without paying for the "Tough book" marketing.
