Yup its the strongest laptop I found at that price range. I saw it too at best bu today... thing was sexy with the lights on the back and side. 15.4 is also really good. Not too big and not too small.

I am waiting for the price range to go down by thanksgiving even if its only 100$... it be funny if they bring it back up to its original price though...

GeForce 9700M GTS

17 inch is dang good if you use it at home. But it has less powerful Geforce 9700. 2000GB is crazy so i bet you saying 200GB lol, but HDD now days are cheap and very upgradable.

CPU is slight slower on the 17 inch one, but extra 1MB L2 Cache will also helps the performance on certain task. CPU is not very upgradable on other brand but i know Asus well and is certainly ok for Asus.

HDD 7200RPM is fast but when compare with 320GB i'd say is roughtly the same performance, but 320GB motor is slower that mean it can last longer.. Fast RPM motor usually last shorter.

For all see the Asus is slight more powerful then Toshiba and is 15.6" inch is really helpful for outdoor usage, even at home. The 17" is great for home use because of the screen. After compared both i'd still want that Asus!

EDIT: To put it this way, you get 260MHz slight faster on CPU, 150GB HDD space and faster GFX Card on a laptop which is normally not upgradable. All for $99.99.. Is worth it.

Ya I don't care much for hard drive size. I am buying a 1TB external hard drive anyways. As for the speed of the hard drive, I also read that 7200rpm causes more heat and thus shortens the laptop life so I guess the 5400rpm is good enough for me.

I guess the ASUS does have a better CPU and GPU and is more portable.

Thanks for info man.

I also checked the P8400 CPU on Asus laptop is actually the same line as the Toshiba, same 3MB L2 Cache, but 260MHz faster. Also support 1066MHz FSB and is the dang latest 45nm Penryn. Means the CPU run on very low temp. My Dell laptop with 65nm run very cool already while underload so i guess the 45nm can do even better jobs.

That link says the P8400 has 3mb while on the BestBuy site it says its only a 2mb cache?

Retailers and resellers can make mistakes and typos about products they sell. It's much less likely for the manufacturer to make mistakes when listing the details of their products. In other words, believe Intel when it comes to their processor's specifications.

I heard BestBuy strips down their products so do you think thats the case with this or its not possible to strip it down to 2mb because they can't alter processors.

They can't alter processors. Here's how it's stripped down:

Asus G50Vt-X1 (from Best Buy)
1366x768 screen resolution
2.26 Ghz processor
320GB 5400RPM hard drive
1 year warranty through Best Buy

Asus G50Vt-A1 (from GenTechPC, an Asus reseller)
1680x1050 screen resolution
2.53 Ghz processor
500GB (2x250GB) 7200RPM hard drives
2 years warranty, 1 year accidental coverage through Asus

Wow they murdered the laptop... but I guess the 500$+ price difference makes it worth it. And its still a really good laptop overall I guess.

How will the Asus G50Vt-X1 run these games? Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2, Call of Duty 4?

Maybe low settings for Crysis and Far Cry 2 and mediums ettings for Call of Duty 4?

You should be able to play all those games at medium to high settings.

There was a huge difference between these 2:

Asus G50Vt-X1
Asus G50Vt-A1

One letter changed the whole model name. And you know each model have different specs

Yet on the comparasion with HP, i still pick Asus. Performance over 17". For laptop GPU comparasion this list will be helpfull > http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-...ist.844.0.html

Notebookcheck.net is a great site for comparing specs on components and gtraphics cards but the benchmarks are highly inconsistent and don't mean a whole lot because they are grabbed from many different places and there's no way to verify them.

I think you should figure out what kind of notebook you want before you shop for one. You should decide if you prefer 17" or 15.4" for example. You should decide if you like a high resolution or low res or a combination of a smaller screen and a higher res. You should decide what you want to do with it (clearly you would like to play 3D games).

Out of the examples above the Asus with the smaller screen and lower resolution will get better graphics benchmarks with all else being equal. Except that it's not equal. It's hard to tell but I would guess the 9800GS is faster than the 9600GT also.

Go to the local store and play around with notebooks until you are certain of the features you like. You don't have to buy one but you'll get a feel for them. Ask the sales people to load a game or a demo of a game on one of the laptops to see how it performs for yourself. Computer sales people usually love any excuse to load a game into the display models and with the economy the way it is they aren't all that busy these days. :-}

On the class sort, the 9800GS is 55nm and is listed as Class 1, 9600GT is on Class 2. I'm only amazed by the 55nm because that's the smallest nm for a GPU avaliable and is Class 1. So performance with less heat, with Penryn 45nm CPU, that Asus is a coolest gaming laptop ever!

I WANT IT SOO BADLY! I have to wait 2-3 more weeks though

I will be soo angry if they are sold out or if the sale price ends!

Gosh man at the first i found out the GPU is Class 1 55nm + DDR3 with 45nm Penyrn i was like really want to buy one as well xD ... But i'm broke and i got 2 laptop already.

This lappy is sort of future proof because of the high performance GPU, and with Asus the CPU is upgradable. Very very nice laptop on 15" inch series.

I guess it pays off to not rush when buying electronics. I had to search for like a week until I stumbled across that laptop.

I found the G50 availability in Australia With the GPU info listed on Asus site that the GeForce 9800M GS is with 1GB GDDR3 VRAM. I find that really shocking:
