Sooo ive convinced my parents to throw me a mere 2 Grand for Christmas..Give or take a few hundred for Girlfriends gift lol . So say i haev about 1600 to 1700 and possibly a bit more...Which would be a good choice for me because im getting tired of my m9700 i can barely run a good game without lag due to the damn processor! SHUN AMD!!!! SHUNNNNNNNN!!! .......Anyways im off to college in the fall so i was thinking of an m15x...would a setup for 1700 be good enough to game better then my m9700? or shuld i jump for a desktop?

m15x would be a good choice although not nearly as powerful as a same priced desktop, but u lose portability.

Consider the new m17, it has butt loads of power and room to grow with new procs/gpu's so u dont have to get everything up front. But u'll give up portability to a lesser degree with that beast too.

yea the m17 is out of the qt for me due to its battery life and its thicker than my m9700. i was figuring that the m15x with at least an 8700m fgx card and low processor and 4gig ram off of newegg would due enough untill i can just upgrade it later on..I just want to make sure 2.3ghz processor and 8700m gfx card would be fast enough to run call of duty4 and crysis...

in reality, its not going to play crisis at even med settings /w the 8700, maybe low...
i'd cut back on the screen, CPU, and memory. then spring for the 9800 gt

If I were back in college i'd also pick the m15x. up to 4 hours of battery life on the intergrated card for classes, and high preformance gaming with a simple reboot.

the fact that its only 15" makes it portable, but I have to warn you, this is the heaviest 15" notebook i've seen.
