Anyone have the Inspiron e6500?

Thread Starter
I am thinking this is going to be my next laptop. I am liking everything about it, the magnesium alloy chassis, black, and professional looking, high res screen, 8gb ram support, fast cpu's...Only think I am NOT liking a lot is the graphics solutions. Either the intel 4500hd, or, the quadro.

I have spent some time googling, and haven't come up with a lot of answers....

Mainly, my few questions are:
-Can the e6500 take another card other then its offerings? (what slot does it have for video?)
-How is it for gaming performance? I do not plan to do a lot of gaming, maybe cs:s or tf2, maybe c&c3 from time to time.
-Anyone with this unit, how is the keyboard back lighting? How is the overall build quality?

When my time comes to pull the trigger, I will be watching the Dell outlet for one, but I want to make sure it's what I am after.

If there is something else I should check out, what shold I be looking at? I do not want a laptop made of plastic!

First off it's not an Inspiron. It's a Latitude, and the difference being that Latitudes don't share parts with Inspirons (anymore, they did in the past) that and they're suited more for the corporate Laptop (that is non gaming) market.

The Video card on these systems cannot be upgraded after the fact. Video is a chip soldered directly to the system board.

The Quadro NVS 160m is the equivalent of a GeForce 9300M. However, if you want more oomph the Precision M4400 offers two more powerful options a Quadro FX 770M (9600MGT equivalent) comes standard, and the Quadro FX 1700M is available as an option (though steep at $500). With the Precision you also gain a 3 year onsite service warranty as standard ($99 option on the Latitude)

Forum member gerryjoson has an M4400 with the 770M and has stated it is quite capable.

As far as the keyboard backlight is concerned. It looks quite good, I thought the white lighting would be killer on nightvision, but it's a very soft light that doesn't have any problems.

Build quality is top notch and on this system the fan is EASILY removed to facilitate cleaning of the heatsinks.
