C500 laptop dead

Compaq C500 laptop won't turn on. When I plug in the charger the charge LED lights solid for just a millisecond, then flickers.I completely disassembled the unit, down to the main board. I removed the charger port from the unit and plugged the D/C charger into the port. I then checked for voltage at the plug (that connects to the motherboard). I get a solid 19 VDC. I reassembled the laptop and tried powering up without RAM, then without CMOS battery, then without main battery. Either way I still get the same thing. I plug the D/C charger in the port and get a solid charge LED for a millisecond before the charge light starts to flicker fast. There is always a small hesitation before the LEDS flicker. Lastly, I hit the power button when the LEDs were solid and unit tries to power up. As soon as the system fan turns on, it stops and the LEDS start that fast flickering. Different RAM, same thing. I tried holding the power button on and then it starts flickering too, but no system fan or anything else. BTW, this is a new D/C power supply. Any ideas?

i have the same exact problem with my hp dv6000 and my g/f's c300 her's went monday mine went tuesday. slightly odd but seems like this is a normal thing for these. ive searched everywhere since monday trying to find some help. i did the same thing ripped it apart checked for voltage. i cleaned the fan and it was plugged with dust on her c300 she has the celeron cpu. i put mine on standby and left it on my bed and it never went into stand by for somereason or it did and came out i have the amd dual core 1.6 restarted it both cpu's went to 100% it was smokin hot and started freezing on me. then never turned back on with the same exact problem as hers. so my guess would be they over heated. i did find one guy who took it apart and found diode had burned up on his mother board he said it burned up more then worked fine but who knows... so either the cpu's or the motherboards are toast on mine and her's laptops. ive heard the amd's have always had problems overheating.
