Upgrade or Buy New?

Hello,

I currently have the laptop listed in my signature, it's the Alienware m9750 with the single 7950m GTX GPU. I would like to upgrade my computer for a faster GPU.
Should I buy a daughter 7950m GTX, buy the 3780 x2(two cards) and throw away(or sell ) the 7950m GTX, or sell my laptop and buy the Gateway FX?

you still trying to sell it at that high of a price? no one is going to buy it. Just by a better GPU and put it in.

I assume you mean the 8700gt, the m9750 doesn't support the ATi 3870's. Someone posted here that they got one to work in the m9750, but I'm not sure the m9750 is crossfire capable.

You should see a significant boost by adding a second 7950 in SLI, probably the easiest and least expensive way to go about it. Not sure if AW still carries those though. You could go for two 8700gt's, but that would probably be expensive...

Don't know nothin bout no gateway....

Hammerhead the other guy stated that he got both cards to work in the m9750 so you can have two 3870....

I just ran through a new m9750 with dual 8700's and as close as I could get to the original setup of this laptop, and it was less than $2000. I think you're still asking too much for the laptop. Just my 2cents...

I agree the price needs to be dropped if you going to sell it... you may get around 1500 for it since a warranty doesnt transfer...

I just updated the price to $1350 around the time I made this topic.
Do you think it's too low? :O

I don't... If you can get a brand new m9750 with dual 8700gt cards for less than $2000, I wouldn't spend more than $1000 for a no warranty used system with a single 7950gtx in there...

That's just the way it is with computers...

Hopefully someone will buy it at your new price before even better and less expensive hardware comes out.
