I've posted this in another thread but I think it's worth reposting here to warn anyone who's thinking about ordering from dell and hoping to have the computer before christmas. You might want to buy somewhere else.

I've ordered my first computer from dell 2 weeks ago and I already regret it.

After wasting an hour on the phone with them today I finally got told that it would take at least another 2 weeks to receive my computer as it was still in production and it had then to be shipped from texas (I ordered from dell canada).

I was also told that I was LUCKY that it would ONLY take a month to get a computer as most other people would have to wait until christmas to get their computer.

Everyone at dell seems to think it's normal to wait a month for a computer. I happen to think it's normal to go to the store and get what you want. Which is what I'm doing tomorrow, going to buy an HP.

Their customer service was slow, rude and unhelpful. I got bounced back and forth between sales and customer service. I could barely understand a word they were saying as their english was so bad.

Did I mention you'll be lucky to get a computer ONE MONTH after the date your credit card has been charged?

Oh yea and best part is, they won't let me cancel my order!

One person said that only the person I placed the order with could cancel my order (WTF!!!)

Another one said that the order was already too far along and that it couldn't be cancelled anymore as production should be completed by friday. She also told me not to worry because it would be shipped very soon. I told her I didn't care and I wanted it cancelled but she repeated not to worry it would be ready soon... WTF part 2.

I told her I will backcharge my card and not sign the package when I receive it and ask for it to be sent back to sender because I've never ordered anything from Dell!

3 weeks of production (let's see if that will hold, already been 2 weeks) and 1 week of shipping is way too slow.

I ordered a printer from HP's website. I got it in less than 48 hours. A printer doesn't have to be assembled but you can't even compare the speed of HP with Dell.

This time of the year, ordering ANYTHING custom is going to take FOREVER because you and thousands of other people got the same idea. Buy a computer before Christmas. Plus with the economy sucking and all evidence saying that shopping this year is going to be rather light, companies are running on razor thin inventories. The reason you can get an HP faster at the store is because that system was assembled about a month ago and then hauled to the store. With the exception of the few retail models and E-value codes Dell doesn't have systems sitting in a box ready to go.

You mentioned in Fidget's thread about getting a car faster. My dad wanted to buy a Ford Flex, the dealer didn't have a FWD lower trim level vehicle in stock so my dad had to order. Dealer said it'd be about 6 weeks before he got his vehicle since it'd have to be built to order at the factory. Next summer I'll probably have to wait a similar amount of time to get a Ford Transit Connect cargo van with the options I want that isn't white.

Yeah, you can go into a computer store and hand build a computer faster too, but that's because all those parts are in stock and that computer store doesn't get inundated with everyone and his dog wanting to buy a computer for Christmas.

If you need a computer quickly, don't count on special order anything to arrive rapidly.

Well I already hate their customer service.

I'm desperately looking for another computer as I'm very worried of what it will be like if there is a problem with my dell computer.

Their customer service is rude, unhelpful and outsourced. I've been trying to cancel my order since yesterday but that's impossible to do.

The only person in the whole company who can cancel my order is the person I ordered with. That person can't take direct incoming calls because he's busy answering people calling to buy new computers. The only way is to leave him a message and hope he calls me back.

Did I mention the woman I talked to on the phone was rude and a total b****?

Before talking to that woman, I also had someone who wouldn't talk to me. He just wouldn't say a word. I had to ask him if he was there a couple times after a 10 sec awkward silence, he would say "yes" and then not say another word again. He then told me to wait on hold... and put me through an extension that doesn't exist so I had to hang up!

Dell customer service scares the shit out of me.

You can cancel at anytime. Just make sure you have a copy of the cancel email or a record of the phone call. Then sumbit that to the credit card compnay and if they ship refuse the package or accept it and return it within the 21 day policy for a full refund.

Not to shamlessly self promote, but depending on what your looking for I have some stock.

Yup, that's about right, actually.

You ordered during a busy time. So did I (mid-summer when there were tons of people buying school computers). It took me over a month or so to get my computer. Next time you should order way ahead of the crowd Hate to say it. At any other time, it's less than a month.

Good luck with HP. I'm pretty sure it'll be the same way if you don't buy it in-store.

Well the not cancelling the order is a pile of crap, if your serious about not wanting it, try a Online Chat and cancel it.

But as others have said, your ordering in a Peak time period. and can expect delays.

Really the main readon I go with Dell has always been because of the Complete Care warranty has been far better than any other laptop brand,

Given you still have to wade your way through the Morons in over seas technical support, but usually works out in the end.

Your config matters a lot also. Video cards are the biggest ones that cause delays.
