macbook pro, bootcamp windows xp, firewire

Hi,

I am hoping someone here can help me figure out how to get two hard drives to show up on the windows XP side of things - using firewire.

I have tried daisy chaining the HDs but there does not seem to be enough power in the port for that.

The HDs I am using are Iomega eGo, 500GB fire wire 400/800 and USB. I can get both HDs working if I put one on USB but I am trying to keep as many USB ports open as possible. Each hard drive works fine in either the FW 400 or 800 port but I can't get them to both show up at the same time. Of course they both show up on the os X side of things...

Your advice is appreciated.

Additional Data - The two drives daisy chain just fine via the FW400 ports on the OSX side as well. If I boot to OSX first, then reboot into XP, both drives show up. If I start out booting to XP no go. Pretty weird.

Don't have a good answer to that one, sounds like a possible driver issue on the Windows side, but am not sure. Are you powering the drives externally or from the bus? If from the bus I would bet power might be an issue, and would suggest you ppower them externally. I can run one 2.5" drive without a problem, but two might be pushing it. It could be possible, but is probably better not to push it, especially considering the last time I checked the FW port on the Apple laptops only gives 7W of power, not the full 15W.

Thanks for the reply Seablade.

The two drives have been working in daisy chain mode for a couple days now. Not sure why getting it to work in OSX first was the trick to getting it working in XP but that seemed to do the trick.

Now I am on to how to get a bluetooth headset to work on the xp side. Works perfect in OSX of course...
