Replacing an 8890 Motherboard

After five years, the GPU on the motherboard of my Sager 8890 (Clevo D800P) starts to produce display artifacts. A new Motherboard is on its way. It has costed me about USD 500 and I expect to revive the system for another 3 years. My main workhorse is a NP9261 but I like to have the old beast for a spare and as a tester.

I have taken my 8890 apart two times but now I am going to replace the motherboard.

Tips, dos and donts are very welcome.

By the way, I will be posting some pictures of the process!

Well, for whom wants to know...

A Clevo Service Center in Germany had a D800P motherboard in stock. Did cost me about USD 500. They shipped the motherboard and I managed to swap it myself after some two hours...

The problem must have been in the old Motherboard because the old beast works fine once more!

Well, ahum...

Although taking a 8890 apart is quite a job, I couldn't find visible damage for making pictures. Just check the Service Manual and you will see what I have been through.

The system has been up and running for more than a week by now and seems to be very robust again!
