I want to play crysis on very high settings and Far Cry 2 on the highest settings they will go, I just want to know, would i be better off getting a fully loaded m17x or a fully loaded m17?

m17 has far superior... FAR Superior horsepower with the exception of grfx card.

Thats not to say it has the inferior grfx solution, Im not sure how the ATI's stack up against NV's top offering, but as cpu games aare grfx card bound, generally the better grfx card solution will be the best bet.

Keep in mind though that the m17x is built on an aged Santa Rosa platform and even if you get a better benchmark now (it prolly wont be by much) the m17 is abuilt on a year newer platform and has much longer to grow(upgrade grfx cards) than the santa rosa based m17x.

althought the m17x beats the pants off the m17 in looks!

Probably you want to wait for the M17x upgrade so you get both a Nvidia and ATI based solution that is Montevina based (Montevina brings quad core laptop cpu/1066&1333 DDR3 mem to 8gb/1066 FSB).

Right now the M17x is based on an aging platform, but it has good GPU horsepower. I'd wait for the update so you can then compare two machines with the same memory/cpu and such and decide with GPU platform suits you.

you'll be waiting for ever.......AW has been uber slow in the last 2 years getting refreshes to market.....

I am going to wait a bit longer because I really want to have better graphics cards than the 3870

I say get the M17. Do you really think your eyes are going to see 5-9FPS more? Plus you can start having fun now. Or play the game on a console system or your PC. Laptops are meant to be on the go stuff. I think you could make due. I am also sure the M 17 will get video card upgrades as well. My M17 should be here in the next few hours so. Its on the fed ex truck now.

Apparently the m17x can run it at 1900x1200 all settings very high and get an fps of 26, but the 4k series seems to be better and I like the montevina architecture and the quad core processor so I am going to wait for a graphics card refresh because it looks like the 3870s arent as powerful as the 9800 gts

Montevina is a decent update (not the end of the world, but very good) so I'm in the same boat as you. Higher than 3870 or dual Nvidia with Montevina and I'm gtg. Until then I'll wait.
