dell inspiron 700m

Hi. I have a dell inspiron 700m. For the last 3 months its been running slow so i reinstalled the XP operating system. Now it runs even slower than before. I asked one of my friends who works with computers what he thinks i should do and he suggested i get a new hard drive and ram. i just want to make sure this is the right thing to do and find out if theres a specific type of hard drive thats compatible with my laptop. Any helpers?!

If the system is running slower after the reformat odds are there is a problem with the drive that's creating I/O errors and causing the Hard drive controller to fall back to a slower transfer mode. That and some additional RAM should speed you back up.
