Installing 64bit OS on laptop that came with 32bit

Thread Starter
Hey guys Ive got a question for you all.
So I bought an ASUS M70Vm-x1 with 4gb of ram and a T9400 (2.53ghz) and a directx 10 GPU with 512mb of VRAM. Now, my operating system tells me that I am only utilizing 3gb of the total installed 4gb of RAM. This is no suprise because I already know Vista 32bit can only allocate 3gb of RAM. However, my question is if I install Vista Ultimate 64bit on my laptop instead of Vista Home Premium 32bit will this cause a dangerous ammount of strain on the laptop to the point where theres a risk of failure or any long or short term problems? I know that 64bit OS's are more performance OS's but would it be a bad idea to put it on my laptop?
By strain I mean any sort of pressure that could shorten the life of my laptop because of overheating or other problems? I just dont want to put Vista Ultimate 64bit on my laptop only to have it fail or have the life of the processor or RAM shortened.

Thanx

Changing the operating system will have absolutely NO adverse effect on your computer. Feel free to upgrade.

Make sure you round up all the drivers for it before reinstalling.

It should work just fine! The M70Vn-C1 and C2 models have 64-bit and they are basically the same machines, save for the Super Extra Secret Deal that you likely got on the Amazon or Newegg model you've picked up.

make sure your BIOS can handle 64x as well. look for necessary firmware updates just in case.
