I have an old Acer 1350 laptop. My yound daughter uses it forr school work and messing about. All of a sudden when we try and turn on it says \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt!!

I am no tech and can't get passed this. It aslo says use setup cd-rom and select "r". I do have the recovery discs but when i put it in nothing happens.....

You would make her day if we can sort as she has a story for a project on there!!

Many thanks in advance
a confused Steve

If you have the recovery disks for that model, put them it in the CD tray, turn off the machine and restart it, then follow the directions.
Note: doing this, you will lose what programs etc are on the machine because, it will revert the laptop back to the way it was when first purchased.
I assume that it is WinXP, you never said. What they are saying, with insert the setup cd, is that if you have a purchased copy of winXP , then you can insert that and select "r" for repair, which will not lose any current data but only replace the missing files
