I purchased a T500 a few months ago and it came with Vista (ugg). I immediately reformatted it to XP and re-installed all my drivers. However, I was having a problem where if I closed the lid to my laptop, when I opened it again my screen resolution would be off for about 2 seconds, and then flip back to the normal. Doesn't sound like a big problem, except that is re-arranges all the icons on my desktop. I searched for the problem, and tinkered a bit, updated drivers and I believe I changed something in my registry, and the problem went away. This was about 2 months ago and I can't for the life of me remend what it was that I did.
Flash forward to about a week ago, after running windows update, this problem has returned. I've run a system update, and I should have all the newest drivers, including for my display, bios, etc. I've googled the problem again and found many threads regarding this problem from back in about 2006, but none of them have a solution. Some of them say that if you go into display properties and make sure your remote monitor settings are set to the same resolution as your LCD that will fix it. But in my display settings both of the monitor options are set to 1280x800 and it hasn't solved anything. I have my power settings set to "do nothing" when I close my laptop lid, so I don't even know why closing the lid is causing it to do anything.
Anyway, I've got an ATI mobility radeon HD3650. Does anybody know if there is a fix for this problem? Please let me know if you need any additional information, like what specific drivers are installed for various components.
