Using Thinkpad on a bus?

Thread Starter
Hi,

I just bought a Lenovo T400 with a 160GB 7200 RPM harddrive. Could I use this laptop on a ~40 minute school bus ride. Without the vibration killing the harddrive? It seems like the "active protection system" is very senstitive towards vibration. Is this because the harddrive is easily damaged by vibration?

Any insight would be appreciated. But btw, a school bus is pretty bumpy.

Modern hard drives can withstand operating shocks better than you can. For instance, Seagate 7200RPM hard drives have an operating shock tolerance of 300 Gs. You'd pass out at 9-10 Gs. The safety features are "just in case" there is a problem.

Don't worry about it.

I agree. It's nothing to be concerned about. Enjoy your 40 min. ride with your laptop.
