Think I might have a defective keyboard on a VAIO VGN FS-620

What's happening is that when I hit certain keys while typing the cursor will jump to an entirely different position. It appears to happen with certain keys but is sporadic.

I don't believe it's software related because if I boot from a LIVE LINUX CD the problem persists. I have also used the recovery partition and it's still flaky.

I just want a few opinions to confirm my suspicions.

PS; I've also popped of a lot of the affected keys and cleaned under them. Notebook is 3.5 years old.

Thanks

I've tried that, doesn't seem to make a difference.

I would personally remove the keyboard, canned-air it and reseat it first, sometimes it will help. If the issue still persists, then yes, a new keyboard may be in line

That's a good idea, I'll try that before I order a new one..

it it possible your hand is brushing the touchpad? sometimes it's not even necessary to actually touch it, just coming close can do it.
