Darq's HTPC.

So I wanted a cheap HTPC under 500 dollars if possiable. It only needed to play Music, DVD's, .AVI files, internet radio (Pandora, Last FM), and store photos. I also wanted something that would have low power draw so that I can leave it on for long periods of time. Thanks to TV I have a system that will do all of that.

Thanks Shazza, I should have everything in the next couple of days, and it should be up and running by this weekend. If I can decide on the OS.

Thanks GBQ.

I am going 64bit for sure, but I dont know if its going to be XP, Vista, or Ubuntu.

XP x64 sucks. imho

Vista or Vista. I believe Ubuntu is for toying around with and isn't really considered a stand alone OS, but.... I know how much you <3 it.

Linux does everything I need and more. I am not playing anygames on it so I don't know if I want to take the resource hit that Vista comes with.

As soon as I get the parts. I am thinking of adding some stuff and water cooling this down the line. Quad Core and ATI 48XX.

Maybe, but that was not in the design.

That's what I was wondering. Been tossing around the idea of building a cheap DVR. Wasn't sure if this setup would be able to do that, as is.

Why are you getting such a powerful video card if you're not going to be playing games with it? It just seems a waste of money to me...

Down the Line I might start playing games on it. Nothing now, just thinking about it in the next 6 months or so.
