My brand new m15x just burst into flames!!

As some of you may recall, last Friday, after going over a month without a computer, I finally received my new m15x to replace my m9700 that was a lemon from day one.

Today, as I signed into my computer for the first time, the desktop appeared, than went white- just as I noticed a significant amount of smoke pouring from the back of my computer (through the speakers). My room soon smelled of burned plastic and hardware.

I called up Alienware, and the first person I talked to was a complete douchbag and started exclaiming "YOU DON"T TELL ME WHAT TO DO! I AM TELLING YOU WHAT TO DO! AND THAT IS RETURN THE COMPUTER FOR US TO FIX IT OR ENJOY YOUR NEW PAPER WEIGHT!"

I explained to him politely that the 6 times previously I had my computer sent back it returned to me just as broken, and that I was in college and could not afford to go without a computer for one day (especially since i just lost my 27 page Final thesis paper). I asked to be transferred to another agent, which he did after some not so nice parting words.

The next agent was very nice, but explained to me that they could not refund my money or send me a new computer until I send this one back so that they can diagnose it... which would take about 2 weeks. Of course all the cards are in their hands, but I reallllly cannot go without a computer for that long especially with Finals approaching. Anyway, they said the person in charge of my case will call me tomorrow...

Where should I go from here? What should I be asking for? I think I am done with Alienware from now on; two out of box broken computers? It's simply unheard of... I think I will call the better business bureau tomorrow as well.

Suggestions???

AW is the only company that carries the m15x, so you'll have to deal with them if you want it fixed. It's unfortunate, but when you buy an Alienware that's part of the package.

You can ask that CIT handle the return and they may be able to expidite it, but you'll still be without the laptop for a while...

Best advice would be to have a backup system, no matter who makes your main rig.

You've certainly had more than your share of issues with AW, I've only had a few, and AW has handled them to my satisfaction and then some. Sorry to hear it hasn't worked out for you...

Yah, I recognize that I am the exception rather than the rule. It is just bad luck I guess, it is just so weird that this keeps happening... especially when I don't do anything intense with the computer, I write papers and play an occasional game.. Nothing beyond that.

Oh well, I think I am going to stay away from Alienware for a while now until maybe I decide to invest in a desktop.

It's been fun guys, maybe I will be back in a few years....

That is very unfortunate to happen like that.

I would suggest, seems the cards are in their hands...letting them do the dealing and just sit back and play. I wouldn't get upset about it, its not going to make things play differently. Just do what they ask and hopefully they can make it up to you.

I had a similar situation where I was sent a bad laptop 3 times in a row, but they came through in the end and I was very satisfied and made another AW purchase about a year later. Now I have a laptop and desktop.

Again, sorry to hear that (although you should have had your thesis paper in more then one place its still unfortunate)
