Wireless not detected after Hard Drive swap Presario R3240

Noob here asking my first question. I searched the forums and couldn't really find an answer.

I have a Compaq Presario R3240US that came with a 60GB HD, builit in wireless, and the nVidia card (can't remember model). Last night I swapped out the HD for a new Hitachi Travelstar 160GB model. I booted with the original XP installation disk that shipped with my machine. I partitioned the HD as one partition, and was able to install XP SP1 with no problems.

However, my built in wireless adapter is not even showing up as hardware on my computer. Additionally, it seems as if the graphics are really slow...even dragging a window across the screen shows some "glitching" in the movement.

When I swap in the old hard drive, I have no problems at all...everything works great as before. Also, when I had to reformat my original 60GB a couple of years ago and reinstalled XP, I had no problems at all detecting the wireless adapter. It seems this is a unique problem due to the new hard drive.

Do I need to connect via ethernet cable and download SP2 and 3, and see if this makes any difference?

Any recommendations are appreciated...thanks for your help.

You mentioned that XP was being installed, what about the needed drivers for the machine? Chipset driver?

I assumed this was all on the OEM Windows XP installation s CD, as this was what I used when I reformatted by OEM hard drive a couple of years ago and didn't have any problems.

Thanks for the reply

Your OEM hard drive probably had a recovery area where the drivers were present.

I don't think this is hard drive related problem but your installation CD.It worked before, it should work now. You old hard drive works but your new hard drive doesn't, that mean the OS on new hard drive is missing drivers. It happens all the time when cd has scratches.

Try to find driver for your device from HP website, especially for your model.

Your new hard drive might have bad sectors. For sure, you should use a hard drive diagnostic software to check. Depending on your hard drive brand, some manufacturers such as Segate, Western, have free software to check the hard drive and fix problem. For example:
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/sup...loads/seatools
http://www.fis.fujitsu.com/support/d...fjdt_v6.90.zip
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/suppor...2_v414_b00.iso

Or you can search Hiren boot Cd or Ultimateboot Cd, they have software tools for hard drive.
