Hi,

I just bought, and waiting to arrive, a thinkpad r400 with a 6-cell. Its going to be used in the car alot. it comes with a "65 watt adapter" whatever that is. Will i be able to plug it into the cig lighter to recharge it? If not, what do I need to buy in order to do this? thanks in advance.

you need a car adapter. You can buy several different third-party ones that will deliver different wattages with different plugs.

My learned colleague Djembe is correct. You will need either an Auto/Air AC Adapter for your system. You can obtain one from Lenovo or purchase a third party universal one. You can also purchase a small DC to AC Power inverter which is how I power my Laptop in my car and pickup. The Inverter is a bit more versatile as it can power most any device that runs on AC current AND is cheaper than the Auto/air power supply. I have a 400W AC Inverter in my truck and my car that I got for $30/ea from Batteries plus. Mine are hardwired into the vehicles, but most inverters have a cigarette lighter plug.

Check your car....many new cars have a DC to AC inverter as optional OEM equipment these days, especially mini vans and large SUVs designed so the kids can plug in their iPods and DS. Worst that can happen is you blow a fuse.
