Why does the fan run so damn much? I know that the bottom of the laptop does not get hot like Compaq and Sony, but it is damn annoying. There seems to be two speeds, one that is low and runs silently, and the high...this is the problem. Anyone have any ideals?

Here is an interesting exchange on another forum with regards to continual running laptop fans, some suggestions may apply in your case.

Have you decided on an antivirus system for your laptop. If I were you, I would completely uninstall the 90 day free Norton if it is there. Big resource hog. Go for a free one which works as good as Norton AV if not better and certainly not as invasive. Try Avast Free. There are a few others but none come to mind at present. I personally have been using Avast for the last few years with absolutely no problems and am also using the built in Vista firewall.
