Dell Vostro 1000 Mouse Button Issue

The mouse buttons below the touch pad have stopped responding on my fiancee's Vostro 1000. I have checked the mouse settings in the control panel, but to no avail. I even booted into Safe Mode and had the same issue. I am not certain that a rebuild will solve the issue since I am more convinced that it's a hardware issue.

Has anyone else run across this and how difficult would it be to repair this myself?

When did this start? Sometimes a knocked-off/loose cable ribbon connecting to the board from the touchpad can be an issue. Take it frst apart, reseat the cable then see

This started about three days ago. I'll have to see how hard it'll be to take apart.
