LCD in 8790

Thread Starter
I would like to know if the LCD in the 8790 is the same one as the older version thats in the HP ZD7000 (not the new brightview model).

The reason im asking is I currently own both the ZD7000 (purchased back in October) and a 8790. The LCD in the HP has perfect gradients while the 8790 has nowhere near the quality of the HP. Both are 17" WXGA (1440x900). I know about the 18bits plus dithering but figured they would be the same.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks

based on what's been said on the forums by pctorque people and the crowd...i was under the assumption it was the same screen....

this kinda makes me nervous if the 8790 isnt as good as the one in the store...then again, adam has told me this screen is beautiful....so maybe you got a dud!? j/k ...i don tknow....you have me worried tho..i'm about to order one in a week or 2!

There is a link somewhere about the 17 inch screens.
All the 17 inch (exclude brightview) come from the same manufacturer and all notebook
sellers (sager, apple, HP, etc.) use these.

If that is the case, then why doesnt this LCD look as good as the HP. Drivers? Im using the display drivers 7.9.7 (the stock ones).

I don't know. Are you on AC or DC? Is the brightness setting at max? I have seen the apple G4 17 inch, toshiba 17 inch, HP 17 inch (brightview and regular), and all are the same as my 8790, excluding the brightview. When you say look good are you thinking brightness, sharpness, or contrast?

No, the contrast, brightness, etc are fine. Im talking about the colors (which are fine) or lack of colors. Like I said, gradients arent smooth at all.

Thanks

Are you set for 32-bit color? They're the same display.

Here's the link to the manufacturer's site. The cool thing is they have WUXGA+ screens too. Mmmm....WUXGA+. http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/en/prod...g=view&idx=181

6 bits color only! Wow, they look much better than that. I wonder if setting the monitor type (monitor driver) might change things.

I only see a WUXGA, not a WUXGA+: http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/en/prod...g=view&idx=186.

At any rate, this means that there is now a manufacturer for 17" laptop WUXGA displays!
