Asus G50Vt-X1 - good gamer laptop

I really wanted to buy the Asus G50Vt-X1 but wanted to learn a little more about it.

As some of you may know, this is a Best Buy exclusive laptop for $1250.

The specs are...
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile P84002.26GHz
Cache Memory: 2MB on die Level 2
Display: 15.6" WXGA widescreen display with 1366 x 768 resolution
System Memory: 4GB
Hard Drive: 230GB Serial ATA (5400 rpm)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS

I wanted to know...
1) I heard the battery life on this is only about 1.5 hours. I was planning on keeping it in the outlet almost 24/7 and will be using a DC-to-AC adapter when ever I am on the road. Will this work out for me?

2) I heard many complaints about the screen resolution. Is it that bad?

3) How will the PC run today's games such as Left 4 dead, Far Cry 2, Call of Duty 4: World at War, and others?

4) Will this laptop be a good investment for the future? Will it still be powerful in 6 months? a year?

Answsers to:
1) Yes

2) Many people want high resolution like 720p to 1080p but people don't know that kind of high resolution will consume much GPU performance in gaming there still having same screen quality as normal resolution but can push more framerates on gaming.

3) That GPU is on the 2nd TOP on the single GPU laptop line. What more could you ask? Up to 3-4 grands if you want to have the same latop specs but top line GPU from Alienware.

4) This laptop is decent and very good right now and to 2009 quater. I find it crazy on laptop platform, it gets new upgrades every year from 2005 i noticed. By the end of next year Intel gonna introduce the 32nm CPU, cooler faster & smaller. USB3.0, Quad-Core and PCIe2.0 on laptop and much more gonna get introduced every year. There's no stopping technology. So to that question 4, i would say it stands for a year and half to 2 years before you want to get new GPU for better performance.

Can I hook this up to an HD LCD via hdmi or something? Will than provide better resolution?

If it has HDMI port then is yes. My Dell has HDMI but i never use. You'll want to look up the X1 full specs to see if it supported.

That ASUS looks nice. Too bad they don't make it 4GB considering how cheap RAM is these days but you can easily upgrade that yourself later.

It's got a great graphics card and for that screen resolution that card is all the power you'll need.

The ASUS will definitely be the superior gaming machine in that price range and ASUS is a solid brand that makes top quality stuff. If you buy it I think you can feel good about the purchase.

They do. The reseller versions have better specifications in several areas and a better warranty, but also cost more.

Look at the G50Vt-A1 and the G50Vt-A2 for comparison.

Which Gaming Laptop?

I found two very well priced gaming laptops at best buy. I will purchase my first gaming and first laptop tomorrow and want to make sure I get the best one for the price. My budget being $1300.

Out of these two, which would you recommend?

Also,
1) Which has the better processor?
2) Which has the better graphics card?
3) Which would run games smoother and faster?

Better CPU: Asus (slightly faster and the same technology, L2 cache, FSB speed, etc.)
Better graphics card: Asus, although they're fairly close
Better gaming: the Asus would play games slightly better, although the Toshiba would load levels faster

So the Asus is the way to go?
Well, the 2 notebooks you last compared have different screen sizes, which can be a big deal depending on your preferences. Given those 2 choices, I would choose the Asus since it's got a more powerful graphics card and slightly faster processor, and because I prefer 15" notebooks over 17" ones.
