Looking to get some new life out of my laptop rather then buying a new one......
Wondering exactly what CPU's and RAM will be supported, since the stock one
is the t5450 1.66g 667.....I have seen others say they put in the t9300 with a
800 fsb...was wondering why no one went with the t9400 and the 1066fsb..
will it not work? also what ram will be supported 800? 1066??????
while i'm at it I heard you can downgrade your vista to XP for free...anyone know how to get the xp keycode? saw the great intructions on how to go about
doing the downgrade itsself here.....

Yep - get yourself an official licence! Trying to skirt the line with licencing and piracy will get you in hot waters here.

Sorry, when i said i heard you can get xp for free....i meant i read you can get
a free official license from Microsoft to downgrade or sidegrade your vista to XP
nothing illegal about it.... but i haven't had any luck finding any more material on this
was wondering if anyone else knew anything about it...

I believe that this is a programme developed to assist laptop vendors to offer XP to customers who did not want Vista. But keep in mind that whilst the offer XP recovery/installation disk, they are not bound to offer the licence to customers. Dell is the only one that I am aware giving/trading the licence. HP = no. IBM = limited offer only etc ...

cheers ...

looked up the 6831 on gateway site, uses intel 945GM chipset,

cpu is a socket M

max memory is 4 gigs of 667

max cpu would be a T7600, T7400 would be close.

the other cpus op mentioned are socket P & would not work
