Windows XP 64 bit on laptop

Greetings,

I have a Dell XPS M170 notebook that I been running Windows XP PRO w/ SP3 for quite some time. I was wondering based on my notebook hardware specs if I could run Windows XP PRO 64 bit OS. I been trying to pull up some info on 64 bit vs. 32 bit and I can not find the information I would like. I know the 64 bit will recongize the the 3.25 gig+ ram and take advantage of it. I only got 2 gigs of ram in my machine. Could my machine run the 64 bit OS even though my hardware is 2.5 years old? Thank you for the help....

Yeah I posted this topic in different areas since I was not sure which one would been best suited. That sucked I cant run 64 bit.. Now does that mean as well Vista I will not be able to based on my single cpu and not a dual core?

I just looked up your computer model and unless I'm mistaken, the chipset in your computer won't support more than 2GB of RAM anyway and if you have a Pentium M processor, you DEFINITELY CANNOT replace it with a dual-core CPU. These are hardware limitations and will be in effect regardless of your operating system.

Oh I see.. I thought I could run 64 bit to make it a little more faster/stable..... mmmmmmmmm

64bit won't do you any good, your CPU isn't 64bit capable and neither is any of the other hardware. There really is no benefit in running 64bit OS unless you use over 4GB of RAM.
