51M questions - I'm new to the Alienware thing

Thread Starter
I just picked up a NOS Alienware 51M (serial no. 766SN3) - got it cheap because it was missing some parts (DVD Drive, battery and HD Door) but it powers up and works OK? I think.

I have loaded Vista Ultimate and found most of the drivers but am missing a few:

1. Base System device (SD Card Reader I think)
2. Multimedia Video Controller - NO IDEA
3. I cant get the track pad to work but it works with a mouse

I am going to use this as a desktop so if anyone has a dead battery and a DVD drive they want to sell in let me know.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

You can check this regarding the Vista, although I personally would stay with XP.
You don’t need a dead battery, the laptop works fine without any.
As for the DVD drive, you can put any one you like, it’s a standard drive attached to an adaptor cage – here’s the Alienware help on changing it.
Hope that helps.

I am formatting and going back to XP
I think I have most drivers but the track pad is still out?

is there a download of the required drivers?

I want a dead battery just to fill the hole in the case and I have to find the optical drive kit to mount a new drive any ide where I could get one?
