Don't wanna start any flame wars here, but which brand is best?

Thread Starter
I'm shopping around for a new laptop. It is going to be used quite a bit for school, and I'd like it to have a pretty good battery life. I also want it to have a fair bit of power too, as I'm going to be using it around the house alot. Anything less than 3 gigs of ram is pretty well out of the question, and I want a fairly beefy processor.

Anyway, I'm going to be doing the big box store sorta thing (Future shop, best buy, etc.) so I'm wondering what brands I should keep my eyes on? I'm leaning towards hewlitt packard right now, but that isn't for any reason other than a pure hunch. Also, What is my best bet in processor, amd or pentium?

Finally, I have a few linkes of notebooks I have been eyeing up.

Currently, Intel's processors (called Core 2 Duo) are outperforming AMD's processors (called Athlon and Turion)

Brand preference can be a personal choice. The only brand-related advice I'd give you is to stay away from Acer. They have repeatedly been noted for their poor support and inferior build quality.

for style, apple and alienware for sure... very different statements though.

they also are not bad on the performance side either.

No brand is the best! It's all about what's on the inside, and you'll find many times that the core hardware of one brand shares the core hardware of another... Dig deeper...check out what kind of graphics card it's carrying...so on and so forth...
