Woodstock,

quick question:
I just got the call from the onsite tech to schedule the service visit. When I asked him what parts he had, he replied that the workorder only shows one part number... so im wondering if they sent me only one 8800 card to replace the 8700 SLI. So, here is my question: when they replaced your cards was it one part numbers or two?

Thanks buddy!

the 8800SLI card is a single part in the 1730. so you should be ok.

yeah, no such thing as a single 8800 for the 1730, you will get 2 cards but it is one unit

Yeah so the Dell tech was here today, and like you said... I know have a SLI 8800M GTX installed. WAHOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Except now I have some other problems.... My right speaker isnt working and the tech says its the Mobo. So he is going to try to get me another replacement system. Oh, and I am still waiting for another tech to call me about replacing the LCD.

So here is the breakdown of whats been replaced and serviced in the week that I have had this system (I got it last thursday 2/12).
  1. Wireless N Card (unit shipped with wireless-g).
  2. Bluetooth (unit shipping w/o bluetooth)
  3. LCD Bezel (unit shipped with cracked bezel)
  4. LCD Lid (was replaced with above)
  5. Speakers (unit shipped with broken LEDs)
  6. 8800M GTX SLI (unit shipped with 8700M GT SLI)
  7. LCD Bezel again (Dell tech messed up the install)
  8. Speakers again (New speakers - right side no sound)
To be Replaced (allready dispatched).
  1. LCD (unit shipped with LCD with dead pixels)
So now the tech that was here to fix # 7 & 8 says that it would make more sense to just get me a new system all together. So he is going to put in the request. Lets see what happens...

Damn, if this was a car the lemon law would apply.

Any thoughts?

well the physx card...wouldn't bother with it to be honest
getting the 8800 sli config. thats a cool deal. if it was me i'd arrange for the tech to cal lto your workplace if its allowed and get him to do the upgrade there.
otherwise you'll have another million years on the phone

Ok so here is the latest.

Just finished chatting with Dell Support. Apparently the system they were going to send me was the same as the first replacement i got; with the 8700m sli, and wireless g, and no bluetooth. So i was like this is insane. Cancel the order and reissue it with all the components that are supposed to be there is. 8800M SLI, Wireless N, Bluetooth...

Well if only it was that simple, the teck wanted to set up field service visits after i received the system,..... Two hours later with much arguing and complaining (no way I haev allready wasted 23 hours that I will never get back try to get the correct components installed, and then the field service guys broke the comp, etc.), the support tech got the so called approval to cancel and reissue the order with the correct parts and include an external modem and the integrated Audigy sounds system.

So hopefully I will have a new system soon. I will keep you all updated as I get more info.

man what a ordeal to have to go through.

This out sourcing of techical support to some moron over seas is killing the tech Support buisness, and has dropped customer satisfaction to the basement.

yeah, no matter how prepared i think i am for dell hell, i am always amazed at what an ordeal it is just to get something that is deserved in the first place... good luck. i have given up trying to get the power supply and battery's, it is just insane how much time it takes...
