D600&infra red

I'm still finding my way round my recently acquired D600 laptop and was wondering whether it is likely to be infra red enabled, and how I would find out.
I believe it may have been an optional extra. If it isn't, is it much of a job to add it on. My main reason would be to transfer pictures from my phone, my other alternatives being bluetooth or cable, both of which I've had a bit of trouble with.
Thanks in advance.

. I would check to see if you have the latest bios version
. And driver? This model seems to have buggy issue with finding the driver for this infrared device.

cheers ...

Thanks qhn. Please excuse my ignorance, but how do I go about checking the bios version and drivers?

D600's have IrDA standard, you'll just need to turn it on in the system BIOS. Mind you though, don't expect to use your Laptop as a TV remote, the IrDA port is short-range and is located on the side of the system. It's more for interfacing with printers and PDA's than anything.

@ jason.p:
As my learned honorable colleague MrEvil stated, review your BIOS setup and see if you can activate the device. Once in the Bios settings, you should see the version number, or even at start up before the OS comes on (if the comp is being set up as expanded start).

Driver? Now, this is a trick, if you dont have the device present, it means that you either do not have it activated (via BIOS) or the driver was not being installed. So you need to search for the driver, then install it. This part, I beg for help first from D600 series users.

Thanks qhn and Mr Evil. I managed to find my way into the BIOS and enabled the IR on comm port 1.
I checked in "Device manager" and it appears to be working. I checked the driver update, and it appears I have the latest.
Now for a really dumb question. How do I access/open the device to transfer photos fro my phone?
In the meantime thanks for your help.

I didn't get the user manual with the phone (handed down from one of the grandchildren!). I have tried to send with phone IR enabled, but it couldn't find the laptop. I'm sure the phone is in the right mode, and the laptop IR is enabled, so I'm assuming I need to prepare the laptop somehow to receive.
(I have managed to send photos to another phone by IR)
Unfortunately I didn't get the user manual with the laptop either.
I have downloaded the "system users manual", but so far haven't found any help.

Many thanks qhn, I'll download these and see if I can find the answer. It'll have to be tomorrow night now, but I'll try and let you know how I get on.

Success!! Just transferred my first photo. Trick was to line up phone with IR sensor over short distance, as explained in online phone manual. obvious when you know how!
Thanks to all for help.
