I am in the market for a new laptop, just sold my iBook. I was looking at either an HP or Compaq models, good deal with rebate and educational discount, under $1000. I want to stay under $1000.

My question is this, what would be a good used/pre-owned laptop to consider? I might be get more bang for my buck going used. With all the model numbers out there I have no idea what to look for...

I will use the laptop for internet, MP3's, digital photos, some gaming, ie. Madden, FIFA, NHL, NBA, GTA, etc, nothing really heavy duty.
