[inspiron e1505/9400]upgrade wxga to wuxga

Hi,
i'm looking to upgrade the screen of my E1705/9400 from WXGA (1440x900) to WUXGA (1920x1200).

My current screen model is a LG Phillips (LPL0000).
I've found an inspiron 9400 compatible: Samsung WUXGA (LTN170WU-L02)

But i'm not sure if i can upgrade screen from differents manufacturer easy like that.
I've already look over the net but didn't found same situation.

If someone knows something about that kind of upgrade...

Thanks a lot,
S.

It should work fine, you may have to use your old inverter. but other wise plug and play.

Sorry, but i'm not sure about your the last sentence (my crappy english ), that mean i should find a specific inverter to plug the Samsung?

Thank again.

You may have to use your inverter from your WXGA acreen for the WUXGA screen

It depends on what comes with your new screen.

OK, thanks for advice.

I don't know why no one else noticed, but I think you're going to run in to a problem with this particular upgrade path, because your e1505 is a 15" screen laptop and the i9400 donor for the screen you're considering is 17". The two won't mate-up. You could probably wire the 17" screen to work, but it won't fit into the smaller 15" bezel. And if you're planning on using the lid/screen/bezel as a complete unit from the larger laptop you'll find the hinges won't line-up to attch to your e1505. You need to find a compatibly sized screen from an XPS, Inspiron, or Precision notebook, or just buy a better screen that's correctly sized from a vendor that sells them.

I hope this helps,
Ciao

It's just a mistake, in fact my computer is a 1705/9400.
Anyway, thanks to pointing me this, i'll update the first post.

Thanks for correcting. Now then, the e1705/i9400 were identical units just marketed under different names in different places to different customers. So the swap should be simple, strait forward and with no problems.

I hope this helps,

Ok,
just tried to conected the new screen.
It reacts when i start the computer, but nothing more, it stays black. You think i have to find a compatible inverter?
did you try using your inverter from the old screen ?

Can you see images on your screen (shine a light on it to see)

The new screen has no inverter, so yes, i used my old inverter.
There is no image, just a deep black. The screen seem's to check power, cause it reacts when i start the computer. (enter in deep black)
I think the inverer from LG Phillips screen is not compatible with the Samsung.

Try your inverter one more time with your old screen just to verify it still works, I had them crap out just after swapping screens

Yes, it's still working, i've already reconnected my old screen with old inverter and cable.

It should work then

Inverters are more tied to your laptop, than the screen itself.

was this WUXGA screed used or new?

You can try another 17 inch series inverter for your laptop, problem is locating them.

What is the part number of the new screen ?

part number is: LTN170WU-L02 (samsung), and the screen is brand new.
i've found an inverter on ebay for LTN170WU-L03.
Asked to the guy if this inverter can works with LO2 model, i'm still waiting for an answer.

the ebay inverter link: http://cgi.ebay.fr/DELL-LCD-INVERTER...3286.m63.l1177

Ebay screen (new i've buy) link: http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=260319970538

I know I already asked this but it really is important to the problem

Connect the new screen and power on, once booted up shine a bright flashlight onto the screen at various angles and verify if there is an image.

If it is just an inverter problem you should be able to see something

I can be hard to see, but this will verify if the screen itself is working and compatible.

Thanks for help.

I've been trying to use a WUXGA screen on my e1705 too from an XPS Gen 2.

It works just fine after boot up, I see BIOS load etc, today I even got to see the resuming windows (from hibernate) today which I've never seen before, but anything past that point it just quits showing stuff. The backlight is still on and all, but it just .. doesn't show it, and I can unplug it and plug my normal WXGA+ in and everything is shown .. dunno.

I haven't taken apart the LCD cover on the XPS yet so I'm not sure if using the inverter on my current screen works or not, I'll have to test that sometime.

So, i"ve tested again the screen.
The back light is wotking, i saw a shine white brighness, but nothing more. No images, nothing. It seem's this model is not compatible, someone suggested me that motherboard only allow some edid chip data from LCD panels.

I have to agree, sounds like it is not compatible, I seen that a few times. with older laptops and the newest screens
