I just bought used Aspire 3680 laptop, I was told it only had harddrive problem,
however It have few more problems.
1. it won't save bios settings.
2. it won't always boot sometime it takes 3-4 tries before it will boot.
3. when it finally boot it will randomly freeze after 2-10 minutes.

I try new harddrive, reset the memory, unplug the battery.
memtest shows the memory is fine.

did anyone had similar problems ?
any idea on what can be the problem ?

Just curious, is the computer clock losing any time. In the control panel device manager, are there any conflicts ie: yellow or red exclaimation marks beside hardware which may not be working properly

The clock is not losing time, do computer dose not even loading windows, and when trying to reinstall windows it will freeze randomly at the beginning of the install.
I also update the bios to ver 3058 it didn't help.

Have you tried another HDD. Watch out for BIOS updates, if they do not specifically address a certain problem on your model, they can totally screw up your laptop. Just because there is a new BIOS update, does not necessarily mean that it is good for everyone

Was it working well before the BIOS upgrade??? Are you trying to install the same type of HDD ie: whatever came with the computer ATA,IDE, PATA and not SATA.
