Removing Vista fom Sony

Hi everyone, I have a Sony Vaio Model # VGN-FZ345D, I have been wanting to remove Vista since I got it and install XP Pro but I guess I can't. I was directed here as I was told you guys are the experts with this sort of thing. From what I understand my laptop doesn't have the drivers to install XP and it requires me finding everything to do so. Is there a guide to which I can follow and something to tell me what exactly I need to get XP installed?

Sure appreciate it if ou could help me out.
Thanks

I have talked to Sony support and what a joke they do not have any drivers for Windows XP as my laptop came with Vista. I have tried a few other ways of trying to get the proper drivers for my laptop but so far I have found ZERO. I think this is the last time I buy a computer with VISTA on it and I am seriously going to have consider a Mac of all things if this is the way PC's are going to be going using VISTA.

What ways have you tried so far? Typical is to list out the devices that you have on your comp, then search the drivers directly from the manufacturers or from another model that uses the same device.

Keep in mind that whilst you can/will make your Sony to run XP, not all the comps special functions will run, since it requires Sony specific apps.

You might also take the offer from Hellbringer above

I don't get this thread--people saying that Sony has no XP drivers available, that Sony support said there are none, etc.

Damn it--they are right there--on Sony's support web site! Not only drivers, but utilities, etc. Everything is there!

For instance, here is the download page for my Sony notebook:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...VGNSZ780&LOC=3

My notebook also came with only Vista installed, no media included for XP, yet XP drivers are there on the site. I'm not going to check for you, but I see no reason they would not be available for your notebook as well.

You could try using the URL above, and substitute for VGNSZ780 the full model # of your notebook. I'm not sure if that would work, but it may.

Or, go to http://esupport.sony.com/, choose your notebook, the page for downloads, when it asks your OS choose XP.

Actually, for my model, there is even a FTP site specifically for downloading XP drivers and utilities. That could actually be simpler, as one can download all drivers in one zip file, and all utilities in another. Take a look:

ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/OS/XPDOW..._WITHOUT_DISC/

Do not download from that page, as they are for my notebook. But my guess is, such a page is available for your notebook as well.

I really find it strange, these statements in this thread, about Sony not providing XP drivers and utilities! They are right there, in an obvious place! (The first place mentioned.)

How to install? Once you have all your Sony drivers and utilities for XP, if you want to completely eliminate Vista, not do dual-boot, you have your XP install disc and license, etc., and you have your Sony XP drivers and utilities on a separate drive (flash, USB, etc.), then reformat the drive, and install XP from scratch. Afterwards, install the Sony drivers and utilites, or whichever of them you wish.

I disagree I talked to Sony phone support and recieved an e-mail from thier tech support and from them (Sony) they do not have XP drivers for this laptop, they can downgrade to Win 98 but if you think you can find me Win 98 to install and then upgrade to XP please feel free to show me how.

Hello??? Did you read what I wrote? It isn't a matter of agreement or disagreement. Have you looked on the Sony support web site, as I suggested? (I even gave you links.)

You could have saved a lot of time dealing with phone and e-mail tech support, and writing here, by just looking on their web site!

When I put in my Model # it only shows Win 98 and Vista for OS, there is no XP. Also I have tried doing a clean install with XP and it won't install I would have to try it again to get what it tells me but I was told it was because my laptop doesn't support XP which is what Sony is telling me also. I would love it if anyone here can prove me wrong.
