XPS m1530 sound problems and overheating

I wonder if your sound problem maybe heat related as well.

As far as your temps...Yikes.

Have you tried using IK8fangu and forcing the fans to High speed ?

Has the problem with High temps always been there or just lately?

yes I8k has a known bug were the temps are off by 6 degrees or so, but if your getting anywhere around the 100 degree mark it high what ever program your using.

If dell is comming out then I would expect they are giong to at least clean the fans and heat pipes, and shoud re apply the thermal compound on the heat sinks.

They may well change your mobo.

I have found the stock thermal paste is not always the best quality and not always applied correctly. Usually the first thing I do is open up the laptop and apply some AS5.

Hey guys, I have the exact same issue with my m1530

I purchased this machine in January of 08, ever since then I have had constant overheating issues and the state of the machines performance has gone from bad to worse. I broke 110 degrees playing World of Warcraft on minimal settings.

I only purchased a 1 year warrenty from Dell, this was my first mistake, in January of 09 I was fed up with these ongoing problems after the overheating caused my battery and where you plug it into to fry and began to search for this if anyone else had been having similar issues. Noticing the high amount of response to simply googling 'M1530 overheating issues' I called dell support about 2 weeks before my warrenty ended. XPS service were more then happy to admit there was a issue with the M1530 in the heat sink and motherboard overheating.

2 Days later I had a dell service tech rock up at my door, he replaced, heatsink, mobo, battery and adaptor. Told me he is repairing this same fault 1-5times a week in the London area. (I was astonded at this figure.)

The machine now repaired began to work like it did when first purchased, I re-installed a couple of games that I had not played in a while and all was sweet.

Now comes April of 09. (At this point my warrenty has ended.) Same issues as stated above, simple tasks like streaming video on the internet causes the machine to shutdown from overheating. I do some testing using I9kfan. same problem.

I call Dell, explain to them that my machine was acting up on the same faults again. This time out of warrenty dell were not so accomodating. Tell me because my machine isn't covered that I would need to pay for the replacement parts. Because I had this machine repaired in January I ask the simple question are these replacement parts I now need to pay for covered in case of failure to which I am told 90days is the guarantee. This is all well and good expect it has now been 95 days since the last fault.... I am told to replace the faulty parts that it will cost me £330

I explain this to at least 4 people over the phone over a 3 hour call. That I am not prepared to spend such a amount to just have the same issue happen again in 3months time.

One of the Dell customer support managers even had the tenacity to tell me it was my fault the machine was broken and that I had to pay because I had not chosen to take out extended warrenty cover... That is it for me and Dell, there so called top of the line machine is a piece of crap. I will take the money asked from them to repair this machine and invest it into something that isn't dodgy.

So after this experience I can say one thing, Steer clear of Dell. Even after they admit that a machine and the components supplied are faulty they are unwilling to do anything about it unless you spend a further couple of hundred pound to cover the machine. The issue is having a machine that I need to be working constantly breaking down. I can not afford to be calling dell every 3months and be spending £330 to have them come and replace the same fault at my time and expense.

well no laptop maker is likely to cover you after the warranty has expired.

And if it was a known issue you should have extended the warratny or sold the unit while the warranty was in force.

Have you opened up the laptop and cleaned out the fans ? if not I would start with that.

I would also consider applying some AS5 on the Heat sinks for the CPU and GPU.
