I just replaced the 100 Gig 7200 RPM Hitachi Hard drive on my XPS 1710 with a 200 Gig 7200 drive and would like recomendations on a decent hard drive enclosure to make for a back-up drive? Thanks

I used $ 10.00 External sata drive encosures for 2.5 inch mobile drives found on Ebay, Vs more expensive ones from Best buy Etc. and really have not seen any difference in performance. So I let the best price decide.

The only thing of note I found was some drives required 2 USB ports to power the drive, and others have required a single USB port and worked fine. but most seem to have an option for a external power supply (not usually included though)

This is the one I bought, have one for a 3.5" drive too. Love it.

Kind of pricey at like $23 bucks though, but it's VERY small, only a tad bit larger than the hard drive itself and powered by one usb port. It has my recommendation.

Thank's for the input guys.

I read a lot of reviews and looked at many 2.5 HD enclosures I took a chance with this one from newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817349007

I love this drive! The looks and quality is way better then I expected it even matches my Black Lid on my XPS 1710. Best part I poped it open pluged in my old 100 Gig 7200 Rpm SATA HD BAM! windows Media Center reconized it right off it works flawless with just one USB power plug.

If you are considering a HD upgrade for your laptop and want a great enclosure for your old HD don't hesitate as mentioned the apearance and quality is much better then I expected and it looks better in person too.

Cheers

I've always had great experiences with Vantec enclosures of all shapes and sizes.
