8790 WINXP Flickering Problem? - Page 2

I had the exact problem that is being describe as well. After a few days, was getting that absurd flickering. Pressing in the left hand area would make it stop and releasing my hand would bring the flickering back.

I have the luxury of living only 20 minutes from Sager and I went in person to have the issue resolved. The first time I took it in, they reseated the card and replaced somekind of heat pad. Being that everyone at the Sager spoke english as a seond language, it was a little difficult to get detailed answers to thier solution. It worked well for another week and it happened again. Frustrating to say the least, but only a 20 minute trip. The second time, they kept it for a day and they reseated card and did something with some cable that connected to the LCD.

Since that second visit, I haven't experienced any flickering problems(knocking hard on wood). I was originally on the default drivers that came with the system and I'm no on the 4.5 omegas. Definitely a hardware issue but never was I told by Sager about conditions on running my laptop to avoid the flickering...using it now...full brightness.

I completely understand not wanting to part with your machines if they have to be shipped. I use my laptop for work as well.

Good luck all. I hope this helps.

Well since I have my other Sager it wont hurt so much to part with this one for a week. That's part of the benefit to being a tech addict...you have more lappys than you know what to do with. So I will pull the 8887 out from under the leg of my crooked coffee table and fire it up...I will post to let all know the result from sending it in.

To be fair to Sager - they have always been pretty helpful to me, and when emailing them on this issue i asked about they lcd upgrade. I dont think they were trying to sell it as the solution. I did get the impression that even with the upgrade it would eventually start flickering again though, so I am not gonna do it.

Just so you have a point of reference, I use my laptop continuously for about 12 hours a day. I've had it back from Sager for about 2 months with constant power using (power coming from Far Cry, UT2004, and doom3). Since they corrected the problem, not a single flicker (knocking head on desk, just in case).

I hope they take good care of you as they did with me. Great product and I'm looking to purchase yet another one. I wish they made desktops with this kind of quality, power and reliability...Your reading this Sager...another income stream potential. :-)

you may want to check out the thread about the pink lines going across the screen..maybe the flickering is related?
i was getting the pink lines after about a month..and i followed the directions that someone said sager told them to do...which was remove the keyboard, and loosen 5 of the screws on the left side....look for the thread...it has pictures of which screws...better yet.....here it is:

I have had the same flickering issue. But it only happens randomly, when I contacted sager they told me that the computer was trying to determine how much power to use for the screen, and that this was normal. But I thought it was odd if it was normal because it had never done it in four months then randomly started.

Also, I wanted to ask if anyone has had any issues with one side of the screen being dimmer than the other. The right side of my screen seems to be growing dimmer and dimmer compared to the left side. Just curious.

Thanks

RMA - something is wrong (hardware wise).
