troubleshooting my m-6317?

hello everyone... this place kicks some serious butt... I hope someone could help with my gateway m-6317. It took a drink of gatorade that it didn't like and now I have nothing coming on the screen. Upon start up the harddrive light will come on and it will beep quite a few times. I can get it to start up with a monitor connected via vga. the keyboard also tanked with the drink. so I unplugged the keyboard and i think it will work with one plugged in the usb port. Since I'm not getting nothing out of the Monitor do you think its the inverter board or should I get a new monitor altogether (thats if I can find one). Any help would be appreciated. especially with how to get parts (monitor and keyboard). thanks...

if you have nothing on your LCD at all it would either be the LCD, the Cable, or the mainboard. I would put money on the mainboard as it probably got most of the gatorade.

the inverter would only power the lcd backlight. if it was a bad inverter you would still see an image, but very faint.

Thanks for the reply. I hope you can help me with another question. When I removed the keyboard there was a grey wire with 6 or 7 pin plugged into a board just under the top of the keyboard cover. This is the top towards the power button, but in the middle. am I mistaking this board with the plug for the inverter. Is that the motherboard. The reason I ask is that with the LCD monitors that I work with when the inverter board goes down the whole monitor goes out with no picture or power. thanks again for the reply

In your situation I would replace the inverter first and see; since it is the cheapest part anyway. But as your comp, having some taste of the gastorade, I wonder if that presumbly cable connecting to the inverter (only to way to know for sure is removing the LCD and trace the inverter cable to connector) got short-circuited.

cheers ...

a inverter only powers the backlight as another person stated. so if it was the inverter you would be able to see a faint picture in the lcd (items that are white you will see and the acer logo is white)

the inverter is in with the lcd it sits right below the lcd it is not under the kb so i dought it is a inverter...

now for what it is.

laptop motherboards process video different for the lcd vs the vga output. so i am willing to be that you have shorted a cap or a fet on the sb and it is not outputing video to the LCD. i would think that you are in the market for a new motherboard.
