Are you sure you have Atheros WLAN hardware on there??
I see there are also two Foxconn WLAN hardware drivers for that model too

is the driver installed corectly? int he device manger does it have the little yellow ! ??

check device manger by:
start>(right click on) computer select properties>(on the left) select device manger

if the driver is installed correctly try this

in vista they turn of the service that monitors the network status from the start..

go to

start>(right click on) network select properties>at the top of that window it will have a little error telling that it i turned off. select more info and there is a button to turn it on.....

when you get to the network properties and you see a picture of a computer and a world with a line connecting them then it is already turned on and you are having problems with the driver.....

Hi ALL!
I like this forum, very quick replies (im new here).
Thanks for the replies
To all ACER Aspire 4530 users here is my tip
The wifi xp driver provided by acer is not working properly,
so i looked in the net for a driver.
i cant remember the site but search for this file
xp32-7.6.0.239-whql (it's a rar/zip)

then if you are going to install it make sure that you manually select it! force windows xp to use this driver, otherwise it will retain the driver from Acer, (i think because it is newer(?)).
manually select the *.sys, don't make xp search a folder, otherwise it will use the acer driver =)

my driver is working now =)

oops i quote that i installed service pack3 first, i don't know if it will matter. But after installing service pack 3 the acer driver did not work.

Another Glitch

Using SP3 the Wi-Fi drivers for Atheros AR5007EG were installed. Whenever I clicked the Wi-Fi key on the left to use the network glitches started to happen like:
1) Any media player like WMP or Winamp was started as soon as the N/W was enabled and multiple instances were created of it; eating up resources.
2) Focus to windows were lost. I continuously had to click on the text areas, dropdowns to use them. Further with time; it grew bad like typing in the browser was totally not possible.

Then I updated the drivers:
1) Update drivers in Device Manager.
2) Install from specific location; I will choose driver option.
3) Uncheck show compatible drivers.
4) Select the 'Gigabyte Tech Corp' instead of 'Atheros'.
5) Select the GN-WI01GT (mini) option; usually the top-most, any version.
6) Say 'yes' to the warning.

Now, although the 'orange' light of the key is not blinking with this driver; I'm not having the previous problems.

Hope this workaround helps for people; or somebody could suggest even better trick for SP3.

I found the link for that driver but there were also later ones. I used this one and my wifi is finally working. And I didn't have to pay $30 to a ripoff site.

The Driverboost site mention in another post, is exactly the the same as DriverWhiz and has other names too. My real problem with them is the "gotcha sucka" tactic. They offer a "free scan" of your drivers and there is no mention of the fact that to actually get the driver, you have to pay $29.95. You spend the time to install the software and scan the computer and only then do you find out it is NOT free. And to top it all off, the scan didn't even find the right driver.
