-------------------------------

I like the look of the N80 a lot better and it's got a bigger harddrive. Also I'm under the impression that the 9650m gt edges out the HD3650 but the only comparisons between the two cards I've seen have been between a DDR3 9650 and a DDR2 3650 which is not fair (both of these laptops have the DDR2 cards).

However the F8V has a better processor and if you believe the specs also has an S-Video out port which is a plus for me (my tv has no hdmi). I'm in school for software dev. so the higher resolution of the F8V would also be better (for screenspace) but I've heard that a lower native resolution is better for gaming.

I can get both machines for about the same price (slightly under 1200 Can.) and gaming capability is my primary concern (I wonder if it's crazy to think I can run GTA IV on either machine).

Any suggestions about which machine to buy? Or suggestions about a similary priced 14" laptop in the same price/specs range...

(I'd like to buy one of these soon to get some gaming in before I go back to school)

Thanks for your help

Hello, I'm newbiw also here and I have the similar doubt just between N80Vn-GP011C and F8Va-B1 (or C1).

Considering one of these to replace my old HP dv2120 (really budget piece). I like the look of both models, generaly. I'm new to ASUS laptops, until now it was between HP and Gateway.

To me N80 looks more sturdy, higher build quality, maybe a slightly better battery life (not a lot). F8V sports the outside-located power button, which is one of nice things for me, as maybe most of the time this lap will lay on my desk connected to external monitor and keyboard, so I do not have to open it everytime I want to switch it on.

I do not do a lot of gaming (so to say, no gaming at all :-) but I do some graphics/photo editing and I want drill a little in DV video conversions/editing.

Any hint?

THANKS A LOT!!

I just bought myself an N80-X1 (which, as far as I can tell, is an A1 with a 250GB hard drive). From what I've seen, there isn't anything in a 14" form factor that comes close to the specs and price of this machine.

I also got the impression that the GeForce 9650M GT was slightly better than the Radeon 3650, and I feel that the aesthetics and form factor of the N80 (14" vs. 15" screen) put it ahead of the F8. Higher resolution panels are nice, but they take more power to put out playable frame rates.

mirous - In my understanding, photo/video editing are much more CPU- and RAM-intensive than GPU-intensive, so investing in a laptop with a solid processor and a good quantity of memory should benefit you the most. Having a powerful graphics chip will only create unnecessary heat and drain your battery faster.
