replacing dv8000t motherboard

Hi folks

A few years ago, I bought an HP dv8000t notebook. It worked just fine for about 2 years.

Then, the AC connection got flaky. It wouldn't charge unless I wiggled the adapter connection and eventually, it wouldn't charge at all.

I thought the adapter was broken, so I bought a new one at Best Buy. I tried it out in the store and it had the same problem. The tech working at Best Buy said it was most likely the soldering on the motherboard. Since I needed a new laptop in a big hurry (starting for a new boss 2 days after the dv8000t quit) I bought a new one on the spot.

Now I'm thinking about fixing the dv8000t. I took off a door on the bottom of the case and found a bunch of stickers with part numbers. One of them, per HP's website, corresponds to motherboard part numbers that are supposed to fit in the dv8000 series.

I can get mb's with that particular serial number on ebay for about $150.

I want to reuse EVERYTHIng in the laptop - cpu, wireless card etc etc etc.

Does anyone have any experience replacing laptop motherboards? Are there any websites devoted to repairing HPs?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mark

Select your model on the list, then choose FRU Remove/Replace.

It seems the DC jack is broken, if possible, you only need to replace the DC jack on motherboard.

hes right it is not the motherboard the DV8000 has a dc jack harness... there is not need to solder anything to the systemboard.

here is a link to the whole thing

and if you know how to solder some (wires) you can buy just the jack and then unsolder the wires from old dc jack and replaced just the jack.

I have NEVER seen a dc jack in a dv8000 fail unless it was physically damaged...

the DV8000 is really comming what happens is the center pin gets pushed out the back of the jack. the dc jack does not crack or break like others. at work for awhile we would just glue the pin back it but it is not the "correct" way to repair it so we now replace them... next time i get one i will take a pic and post it and you will see what i am talking about

I know what you are talking about because it happens with the dv5000 series as well when the user causes the damage.
