considering HP dv9830 for gaming/BluRay laptop

Thread Starter
could some of the experts here please give me some advice on this unit.

I currently have an old Dell 9100 with an ATI MR9800, so it seems this having a Nvidia 8600M GS would be a fairly significant upgrade. Considering this is 17", blu-ray, 320gb hd, 4gb ram, 64 bit vista (not sure this is a good thing or not, still on XP myself), all for under $800, I'm guessing this is a pretty good deal.

I'm in the market for a blu-ray player, so I'm already looking to drop $200-$250 on one of those, and this would obviously give me that functionality and then some for a reasonable additional cost. I don't currently have much need to mobile game, but from time to time I would like to, and the old 9100 is getting a little behind the curve you might say.

mostly, I'm trying to catch up after 4 yrs out of the market for this type of unit, and I'm already noticing there are many more "gaming" laptops than there were in 03/04. I'm looking for least expensive but good, so refurbished or clearance is probably going to the route I go to get the most for the least. Anyone know of competitive units to this that are similar in price? is this about as good as I can expect to get considering the ram/blu-ray/screensize/gpu???

Thanks in advance,

No longer there.

Look at the Dell outlet.
