vaio vgn cr 42z faulty screen

hi all .. i have sony vaio vgn cr 42z laptop.it has a faulty screen , when i switch the power on i can see a grey screen with ocasionally coloured horizontal bars . i have tried connecting a external pc monitor on but nothing happens.
the num lock light comes on and caplock light comes when ipress the keyboard.

can any one please help. many thanks in advance.

first off most sony laptops will not post on a external monitor. to test the external turn it on and give it about the right amount of time to bot to windows and then try to hit FN+F6 (i think it is F6 on the CR) and see if it switches over.....

if it dosnt you might have a bad video chip.... we are seeing them more and more on the cr's....

can you post a pic of what the screen looks like that will help alot on what is wrong?
