Dunno about 8790 software, but my 8887 has received air reception by plugging in rabbit ears into the TV coax plug. ALSO, I have to set my TV software options (the wrench button on mine) from CABLE to AIR. Maybe it's similar on the 8790.

havent tried the attenna yet i was just hoping that since it can search for wireless signals it would be at least smart enough to get tv signals.

Apples and oranges I think. Different transmission frequencies to start with, like your radio doesn't pickup TV or vice-versa, and neither picks up cell phone conversations, and a buncha other stuff I know nothing about. Try rabbit ears, or better yet, cable!

I have. I always wanted to have TV playing on my computer while we had a break in my Master's class. Just to do something odd.

Anyway, yes it works with the antenna if I switch it to antenna mode so it doesn't overwrite my cable channel settings.

Get to your Volume Control window, either through your SysTray icon or Control Panel, and be sure AUX is checked.

anyone find a descrambler so you don't have to use the cable box

The last one of those I saw was sold by a guy here in Omaha, Nebraska. I believe that they eventually cost his a couple of years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and retribution payments.

Now if you already have a Cable box, check with your provider and see if you can get a box that has an internal A/B switch. That way you can view two channels at the same time.

Or get a splitter to hook into your TV cable BEFORE the digital box (in which case you'll only get your "standard" cable service) or AFTER your cable box (in which case you should get the unscrambled full service you pay for). If you're paying for your cable service this should not be illegal.

Depends on if there is a "per TV" connection charge/cost. I'm not sure if any of the Cable companies are still using this or not.

Naw, some legislation that was passed down in the 90's made it illegal for cable companies to charge per TV, they can only charge per residence.

Try it with different options - most was the TV -v- Computer frame rate and stay away from the plugins for the time being.

I looked at Realtek website, the sound card in the 8790 is full duplex and support timeshift function. To fix my problem I downloaded sound drivers from Realtek website and AverTv application from Eurocom.com, and reinstalled.
Left every setting on default (Aux for both live and recording)

I am using a satellite receiver connected with a coax cable into the yellow jack with the supplied adapter (that yellow jack is getting audio as well).

Could those of you who have your tv card working olease tell me if you are satisfied with the tv capabilities, quality? If I orer mine with the tv card option, will they automatically install the MCE version of Windows which I assume is required? I plan to order the 8790 in the morning but still am making some choices. Thanks for any advice.

The TV tuner is nice for watching TV, but it really lacks in recording.

If want a real DVR nothing beats a TiVo or Replay.
