Monitor not sealed = Sucks

I was trying to clean my monitor on my M17 with windex and I had it laid out flat well some how it got into the screen (behind it) and left differnt layers of brightness on the right side. so I think my monitor is ****ed up. I get a check on monday and can order a new one for $200 the 1200P one. But I did not really want to upgrade to it right now well it looks like I am forced too now. It does not look like its going to dry out. I thought these things were sealed better then this.

for future reference, the only chemicals you want to use for cleaning LCD screens are isopropyl alcohol and dihydrogen oxide (water )

Windex contains ammonia, which can, as you discovered, severely damage your screen

Are there any sites that sell laptop monitors for the M17? Just asking because maybe i could get it from a different site and get it quicker I don't know.

Like this maybe?
http://www.excelcomputerinc.com/html...ory=partstable
http://www.lcdscreen.com/ppc-oem-lp1...FQQCagodpGhwCw

But that is not the 1200p monitor. I wonder if I call AW if I can get the 1200P monitor for the $200 upgrade price?

you would have to take apart some of the laptop to plug up the new monitor more than likely alienware will want you to send it in for changing out the screen....

I just got this thing. and to be without it for even longer. geez that would blow.

This there a way to take the screen off and clean the inside my self? Think that would fix it? Or is the damage done for ever? Looks like I just need to clean the inside but I am not sure how to take the screen off and then out of the case its in. Is there a way to take the front case off it or something?

What would blow again? That must suck the whole Windex behind the screen and all...

I think taking the screen off and cleaning the inside will work for you...

yeah I am trying that but the last part of the screen is conected to metel. not sure how to pry the last part off.

You take the front screws out.
You take the 2 side screws out
Then you take the 3 small side screws out but then the backing has wires and metel attached how the hell would you get that off with out doing damage????

I guess When I get off work I will shut it down and see how much I can take off.

You can't take it off the metal around the final edge is stoping you. ah well I guess I will send it in if I have too. But I want to see if I have to. I would like to install it myself even if it voids the warr. They are just to damn slow when it comes to shit like this.

Well Its 10-15 days turn around time. I am going to send it off monday and overnight it both ways. I am going to upgrade it to the 1200P screen. Its not bad. I can still see it and play games but I am going to work a 84 hour week any ways so it won't be like i could use it any ways.

I couldn't help but start singing:

You take the front screws out ...and shake it all about.
You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around. That's what it's all about!

Ummm, dihydrogen oxide is not water (Water is the chemical substance with chemical formula H2O), and in fact is a caustic chemical that can damage the screen as well as cause death if inhaled, and cause severe tissue damage;

plus:
Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.

it also dissolves most anything, expands when it freezes, and comprises about 2/3 of the Earth's surface and at least half of your body.

Dihydrogen (H2) Oxide (O) IS water and won't harm your screen unless you're dumb enough to submerge the entire computer in it. Nice joke, though.

LOL thats funny.
dihydrogen oxide aka dihydrogen(h2) monoxide(o): DHMO, is a scientific name for water that, while technically correct, is almost never employed.- you got me there. Didn't even catch it.

Actually, the best name for water, reflecting its ions, is hydrogen hydroxide. However, I'd forgotten that when I posted earlier. It's been a long time since I took chemistry!
